25 Billionth Download from Apple’s iOS App Store was ‘Where’s My Water?’

A user from Qingdao, China, downloaded the free application “Where’s My Water?” as the 25 billionth download from the App Store, Apple announced on Monday. User Chunli Fu was the winner of Apple’s contest, earning them a $10,000 iTunes Gift Card. “Where’s My Water” is a mobile game available on the App Store and published by Disney available both as a free “lite” version and a full paid copy for 99 cents.

“We’d like to thank our customers and developers for helping us achieve this historic milestone of 25 billion apps downloaded,” Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services, said a press released. “When we launched the App Store less than four years ago, we never imagined that mobile apps would become the phenomenon they have, or that developers would create such an incredible selection of apps for iOS users.”

There are currently more than 550,000 applications available for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch in 123 countries around the world. MOre than 170,000 of those applications are available natively for the iPad.

Applications on the App Store are available in 21 different categories ranging from games to sports to business or health and fitness. More than $4 billion has been paid out to developers who sell software on the App Store.

App Store 25 billion downloads

The App  Store reached the 25 billion download milestone on Saturday, though Apple didn’t announce the winner of the $10,000 gift card until Monday. Over the weekend, the page counting down to the number was updated to say: “A billion thanks. 25 times over. The App Store has reached 25 billion download. Thanks for getting us there.”

iCandyApps has released their newest application for the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad – Craigslist! The app is FREE for a limited time; with this in mind, you should head over to the App Store immediately if you’re familiar with the website version. Not only does the application do everything the website does; in my opinion, it also provides the user with a whole better user interface. The app is listed under Apple’s “Lifestyle” category and is currently rated nearly 4 stars on the App Store. It was last updated on October 19th, 2011 & its current version is 1.1.

The first thing I noticed when launching the application was the UI. It looks amazing! Graigslist! ScreenshotThe developers have done a miraculous job of laying-out everything the user needs; right on the “home page.” In total, there are 8 categories or options on the screen when you launch the application; in addition, there is also 1 “Favourites” option next to the other 8.

Not only does the user have the option to create a post immediately, he/she is able to jump into; for example: the “For Sale”, “Housing”, “Jobs”, “Services”, or “Community” option straight away. I like this feature because as it allows users to find what they’re looking for without a hesitation. Equally important, the user is also capable of changing they’re desired location in an instant – straight from the home page.

Once a user finds what they’re looking for, they can then either reply to the post, add it to their favorites, or even send the post to a friend, relative, or even family. All this doesn’t take any time what-so-ever. If you were to ask me what the difference is between the app & the actual website, I would answer with a succinct reply, “There is no difference.”

There is a minor thing that bugs me every now and then; specifically, the when I want to filter sales on Craigslist! by adding minimum & maximum prices. Of course, there is a way of doing it, and this way is by tapping on search, then advanced search, and then, finally, adding all your filters. However, I think the developers should add a much simpler way of doing this. I must admit, it took me quite some time to figure out how to filter searches.

Craigslist! is a fantastic application; regardless, of one small minor feature. The app’s design was clearly designed with a succinct purpose: to make the app as simple looking, yet innovative looking as possible.

iCandyApps has myriads of other apps available as well, check them out on iCandyApps’ official website.

Apple’s iPhone 4, App Store Set World Records For Gaming

Apple’s success with the iPhone 4 and the Apple App Store has earned the company several impressive records in the 2011 Gamer’s Edition of the Guinness Book of World Records. Analysts estimate that 1.5 million iPhone 4 units were sold during launch day, for this reason Apple has earned the title of “Fastest Selling Portable Gaming System” for its popular smart phone, as certified by Guinness World Records, the LA Times reports. Let us compare, Sony’s Playstation Portable sold just 200,000 units on its launch day, which was in 2005, while the Nintendo DS sold over 500,000 units in its first week of availability, which took place in November 2004. “The release of the iPhone has not just changed the mobile industry, but the video game world too,” said Gaz Deaves, Guinness World Records Gaming Editor. “With the never-ending App Store selection and an intuitive device, Apple has created a gigantic new space for itself in the casual games genre that literally brings entertainment to users wherever they may be.”

The Apple App Store has also been awarded records for being the “Most Popular Application Marketplace” and the “Largest Downloadable Video Game Store.” Using numbers from September 2010, Guinness World Records have noted in a statement that Apple had received over 6.5 billion downloads since the launch of its App Store and hosted 259,740  application, including 61 flatulence simulators. Apple’s App Store with 37,362 games make other competitors look tiny. For example, the PC game download service Steam only offers 1,110 titles, whereas Microsoft’s Xbox Live Indie Arcade has 1,300 titles and the Japanese Virtual Console Store offers 576 games. Apple also set the record for the “Largest Launch Line-up of Any Gaming System” with the over 500 available on the first day of business for the App Store.

iOS developers also took home several world records for their work. Rovio’s “Angry Birds” game was noted as the “Top Paid-For App Store Game in Most Countries.” As of October 2010, Angry Birds was recognized as the top paid-for game in the App Store in a record of 67 territories worldwide. Rovio boss Peter Vesterbacka announced last month at the Globile Mobile Internet Conference that total downloads of the game on all platforms had reached 140 million. According to Vesterbacka, Apple “changed everything” about the mobile gaming industry with the release of the iPhone.

In the meanwhile, PopCap‘s “Plant Vs. Zombies” set the record for “Fastest-Selling iPhone/iPod Strategy Game” with more than 300,000 paid downloads in its first 9 days of being on the App Store. “Tap Tap Revenge” also scored big as the “Most Popular iPhone Game Series” with more than 15 million downloads. Apple has reportedly hired away two key gaming industry PR veterans from Nintendo and Activision in an effort to ramp up gaming on iOS.

Infinity Blade To Have Update 1.2 Later This Month? [Rumour]

There are new rumors floating around the web of Infinity Blade to have its second update later this month. Although nothing is confirmed, Infinity Blade tweeted the following on Monday, the 14th of February:

Infinity Blade is for lovers…of kick-as* games! Infinity Blade update coming soon. http://ow.ly/i/8bem

Unfortunately we don’t know just how long “coming soon” is, but let’s hope that the rumors are correct! 🙂 The second update for Infinity  Blade was originally planned to be released in January 2011, as this was tweeted by one of the founders in December 2010.

Infinity Blade 1.2 is rumored to not only have new armor & equipment, but new areas to explore and potentially Multiplayer! 🙂

As of right now, we can only wait. We’ll keep you updated on this topic.

The Price Is Right HD: A Great Game For iPad!

The Price is Right HD for iPad was developed & published by Ludia. It’s latest update was on February 27th, 2010 & its current version is 1.0.7 The Price is Right HD, which I will refer to as TPIR HD from now on, is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad & it Requires iOS 3.1.2 or later.

Let’s get right down to the game. TPIR HD functions exactly like the T.V. show itself. There’s absolutely nothing different about it. Once you start the game, you’ll be able to pick your avatar, a boy or a girl. After picking your desired gender, you’ll be shown the game’s menu. TPIR HD features a “Single Player” mode & a ” Party Mode“. While playing Single Player you’ll have the choice between the Classic game or the 3 Strikes game style. Party Mode allows up to 4 different players to play with you. This is definitely a very nice feature as “Single Player” mode does get a bit mundane. After selecting the number of players, each player will be able to customize their avatar with different hair, skin colour, & various accessories.

TPIR HD also features its own achievements. You’ll be able to access them through the main menu, where you can earn up to 20 achievements.  You’ll also be able to unlock different mini-games as well. Next to the achievements are the options. TPIR HD allows you to “play” with the sound effects, music, & voice. The music does get quite repetitive after a certain period of time, so  thankfully we’re able to turn it down.

Another great feature located in the main menu is the Avatar wardrobe. The wardrobe allows the user to customize his/her avatar even more! 🙂 You’ll be able to pick from a variety of hair styles, accessories, T-Shirts, Pants, & Shoes. The greatness of the wardrobe is that it doesn’t require for you to unlock certain things. They’re all there for you to choose from! 🙂

I must admit that the graphics look a bit “rough” at the moment. By rough I mean not polished & not enough time spent on it. Take a look at some other games on the App Store. You’ll see that most of them will have good-looking graphics. I think that Ludia should take their time in making the graphics look just right. That’s my only concern for TPIR HD at the moment.

If you’re “into” competitive games & enjoy playing with money, TPIR HD is definitely for you! You should at least give it a try. Unfortunately there’s not a LITE version, but you might as well use the Holiday as an excuse to purchase the app at only $0.99 Go grab it before it gets raised! 🙂

Dr.NanoX A New Type Of 3D Platformer For The iPhone & iPad!

The Human Body is very interesting! But recently its gotten a lot more interesting thanks to Dr.NanoX, a new iOS game for the iPhone, iPod Touch, & iPad. Dr.NanoX is an adventurous 3D Platformer game in where you control a small 3D avatar with Dual Stick Controls. Dr.NanoX, developed by Mission Critical Studios, has been developed for over a year now, and has finally been submitted to the App Store for review.

Now lets look at the actual game! In Dr.NanoX your 3D player/avatar shrinks down to enter patients and blast dangerous parasites & bacteria. Your patient has been quarantined with parasites & bacteria that have never been heard or studied about before. Your job is to enter the human body & kill all the parasites, bacteria, & other harmful organisms. You achieve this with help of the games’ dual stick controls, scientific instruments, jet-packs, & more!

Now to the part everyone’s been waiting for… Dr.NanoX also features Online Multiplayer in where players fight while flying around in a jet-pack blasting their competitors. An abundance of iOS gamers love Online Multiplayer games. When a game offers Multiplayer, it’ll usually turn into a hit! All though the graphics might not be the absolute best, I would definitely consider giving this app a try.

We’ve definitely never seen this sort of game on the App Store. It should be a great experience trying such a game for the first time! If you’d like to learn more about Dr.NanoX, please visit their website or E-mail them through their “Contact Us” page on their website.

Tell us your opinion on the game. Are you looking forward to it? Do you think it’s going to be a success? Will you give it a try?
