Temple Run – The Endless Running Game

Temple Run is such a fun time-waster developed and created by Imangi Studios, LLC. It is obvious that the developers behind Temple Run are a very hard-working bunch. Temple Run makes for a very enjoyable and entertaining game, especially when you find yourself bored out of your mind.

Temple Run tests your reflexes as you race down ancient temple walls and along sheer cliffs. Swipe to turn, jump and slide to avoid obstacles, collect coins and power-ups, and see how far you can run. There’s quite a lot of things to do in the World of Temple Run; however, Imangi Studios, LLC has already published their second game in the series: “Temple Run: Brave.”

Temple Run allows you to play with at least 7 different in-game characters; although, you are required to unlock them as the game goes on. Temple Run is compatible with Game Center Leaderboards and Achievements so you can compete with your friends. Trust me, this game will bring out your competitive side… even if you find yourself non-competitive; that’s why having Game Center enabled is such a great feature. As the game continues, one is also able to level-up their character and use crazy power-ups!

Something that I would like to see happen would be a Multi-player mode. I’m not going to lie, the game does lack a bit of competitive fun when it comes to playing with other people and friends. Hopefully that will be something Imangi Studios, LLC might consider for the next update or even the next game.

From what I’ve said, I can tell you that Temple Run is not a bad game; in fact, it’s a must have if you own an iOS device. You can’t go wrong with a free game that offers so much fun and entertainment. I encourage you to download this game as soon as possible.

Customers Report Receiving Shipment Notifications for New iPad

Customers are reporting having received shipment notifications from Apple for pre-orders of the third-generation iPad, also known as “The New iPad,” with delivery scheduled for March 16 which happens to be the official release date. AppleInsider reader Chris D’Aurora submitted a screenshot of an alleged shipment notification from Apple for a pre-order placed on Wednesday.

“We’re happy to let you know that the items below are on their way to you,” the notification read.

The device is a 16GB black iPad + Wi-Fi. The package was reportedly shipped through Federal Express and was listed as on track for delivery on March 16. Engadget reports that several of its readers have received shipping references as well. Some of them have also received UPS tracking numbers indicating the iPads are shipping from China.

Apple unveiled its third-generation iPad on Wednesday at the Yerba Buena Center for Arts in San Francisco. The new tablet features a Retina Display, optional 4G LTE, a faster processor and a 5-megapixel camera. It will launch first in the U.S., Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Switzerland, UK and the US Virgin Islands on Friday, March 16.

The third-generation iPad launch could be significantly larger than its predecessor’s launch, last year, which landed in the U.S. first before going international two weeks later. U.S. pre-orders for the iPad appear to be going strong so far, as some models of the device are no longer available for launch day delivery. The white 16GB and 64GB Wi-Fi + 4G AT&T iPad models are currently listed as shipping by March 19.

Wall Street’s reaction to the new iPad has been positive overall. Several analysts view the accelerated international roll out as a potential sign of an upside to iPad shipments this quarter.

Apple’s Free iCloud Will Automatically Sync Data From Macs, PC’s, iOS Devices

Apple finally showed off its long-awaited iCloud service on Monday, portraying it as a service that stores content, wirelessly pushes it to devices, and integrates with applications — all at no cost to users.

iCloud was demonstrated by Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs, who even admitted that the previous MobileMe service was not Apple’s “finest hour.” But he also said that despite the company’s previous mistakes, iCloud is a new product.

“Today it is a real hassle and very frustrating to keep all your information and content up-to-date across all your devices,” Jobs said. “iCloud keeps your important information and content up to date across all your devices. All of this happens automatically and wirelessly, and because it’s integrated into our apps you don’t even need to think about it—it all just works.”

Apple is ready to ramp iCloud in its three data centers, including the third recently completed in Maiden, NC. Apple has invested over $500 million in its Maiden data center to support the expected customer demand for the free iCloud services.

The free iCloud services include:

  • The former MobileMe services — Contacts, Calendar and Mail — all completely re-architected and rewritten to work seamlessly with iCloud. Users can share calendars with friends and family, and the ad-free push Mail account is hosted at me.com. Your inbox and mailboxes are kept up-to-date across all your iOS devices and computers.
  • The App Store and iBookstore now download purchased iOS apps and books to all your devices, not just the device they were purchased on. In addition, the App Store and iBookstore now let you see your purchase history, and simply tapping the iCloud icon will download any apps and books to any iOS device (up to 10 devices) at no additional cost.
  • iCloud Backup automatically and securely backs up your iOS devices to iCloud daily over Wi-Fi when you charge your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. Backed up content includes purchased music, apps and books, Camera Roll (photos and videos), device settings and app data. If you replace your iOS device, just enter your Apple ID and password during setup and iCloud restores your new device.
iCloud
  • iCloud Storage seamlessly stores all documents created using iCloud Storage APIs, and automatically pushes them to all your devices. When you change a document on any device, iCloud automatically pushes the changes to all your devices. Apple’s Pages®, Numbers® and Keynote® apps already take advantage of iCloud Storage. Users get up to 5GB of free storage for their mail, documents and backup—which is more amazing since the storage for music, apps and books purchased from Apple, and the storage required by Photo Stream doesn’t count towards this 5GB total. Users will be able to buy even more storage, with details announced when iCloud ships this fall.
  • iCloud’s Photo Stream service automatically uploads the photos you take or import on any of your devices and wirelessly pushes them to all your devices and computers. So you can use your iPhone to take a dozen photos of your friends during the afternoon baseball game, and they will be ready to share with the entire group on your iPad (or even Apple TV) when you return home. Photo Stream is built into the photo apps on all iOS devices, iPhoto on Macs, and saved to the Pictures folder on a PC. To save space, the last 1,000 photos are stored on each device so they can be viewed or moved to an album to save forever. Macs and PCs will store all photos from the Photo Stream, since they have more storage. iCloud will store each photo in the cloud for 30 days, which is plenty of time to connect your devices to iCloud and automatically download the latest photos from Photo Stream via Wi-Fi.
  • iTunes in the Cloud lets you download your previously purchased iTunes music to all your iOS devices at no additional cost, and new music purchases can be downloaded automatically to all your devices. In addition, music not purchased from iTunes can gain the same benefits by using iTunes Match, a service that replaces your music with a 256 kbps AAC DRM-free version if it can be matched to the over 18 million songs in the iTunes Store, it makes the matched music available in minutes (instead of weeks to upload your entire music library), and uploads only the small percentage of unmatched music. iTunes Match will be available this fall for a $24.99 annual fee. Apple today is releasing a free beta version of iTunes in the Cloud, without iTunes Match, for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users running iOS 4.3. iTunes in the Cloud will support all iPhones that iOS 5 supports this fall.

Features of iCloud were also demonstrated Monday at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference keynote. Details from those live demos and presentations are included below:

Contact, Calendar and Mail Sync

Like MobileMe, iCloud will offer syncing of contacts, calendars and mail. It will also be an ad-free service, and will ship with all iOS 5 devices this fall.

iCloud will come set up by default on new iOS 5 devices. Users will also be given 5GB of storage for mail, all free through the new service.

iCloud will be integrated in the App Store on iOS devices, allowing users to see all of the applications they own, even if they are not installed on the current device.

Backup to the Cloud

Devices can also be backed up to the cloud, for users who want to become truly PC-free. Content will be backed up to the cloud every day, and users will identify their account with a username and password login on any device.

Backups will occur over Wi-Fi only, and will apply to a number of applications on iOS devices, including purchased music, books and applications; photos and video stored in the camera roll; device settings; and app data.

Documents in the Cloud

A new feature called Documents in the Cloud automatically backs up documents created in Pages, Numbers or Keynote in the iCloud service. The newly released versions of the iWork suite for iOS already have this feature built in.

iCloud

Developers will also have access to iCloud application programming interfaces for their software. Applications will be allowed to store full documents, and they will be pushed to a user’s device automatically. It will work across all iOS devices, as well as Macs and PCs.

Photo Stream

Photo Stream will also bring the cloud to photos, allowing users to back up and sync pictures automatically. With the new service, photos will be available to access on any device. On iOS, this will be accomplished right within the Photos application.

iCloud

To save memory, the last 1,000 photos will be stored on iOS devices, while in the cloud, photos will be saved for 30 days. Users can choose to keep a photo permanently by moving it into an album.

iTunes in the Cloud

With iTunes in the cloud, users will also be able to redownload songs to any device at no additional cost. Just as with applications on the App Store, content that is already owned will be represented with an iCloud icon.

iCloud

A new setting in iOS will also allow automatic downloads of content on other devices. A new tab for purchased items will reside in the iTunes application. Songs are AAC files at 256Kbps and can be pushed to up to 10 devices.

BEATbox was developed by Baseportal GmbH & has been on the Apple App Store for roughly 2 weeks now. BEATbox – Real Human Beatboxing is an awesome application that lets your create your own small beat. You’ll be able to use it anywhere, whether it be at home, at a party, at school, or at work. Once you launch the application, you’ll have the option to click anywhere on the default face displayed to make a beat. You can make each beat as fast or slow as your want to. Apple Reaches 10 Billion App Downloads On iOS App Store!

Apple, on Saturday, announced that it has reached 10 billion downloads on the iOS App Store for the iPhone, iPod Touch, & iPad since its launch in 2008. The company began a “Countdown to 10 billion” downloads on Jan. 14, when there were about 250 million downloads to go. Apple ran a promotion in which the 10 billionth downloader would win an iTunes gift card valued at $10,000!

It’s been 3 years now since the initial launch of the iOS App Store. In the first year of operation, Apple had already reached the 1.5 billion downloads mark. Two years later, Apple has hit the 10 billionth download! It’s amazing to see how much the iOS App Store has grown over the years.

Congratulation to Apple & may there be many more downloads to come! 🙂

Where’s Waldo? HD – In Hollywood: A Must Have For The iPad!

Don’t you remember those fun times as a child? Picking up “Where’s Waldo” books & spending hours trying to find him? Now, you can continue this fun by purchasing Where’s Waldo HD – In HollyWood for only $1.99 Where’s Waldo HD was developed & published by Ludia, the same publisher that published “The Price is Right HD”, which we wrote a review about a couple of days ago. Where’s Waldo HD – In HollyWood was released to the Apple App Store on December 15th, & is probably one of Ludia’s best games! 🙂

Now let’s get into the actual review of the game. The game features a “Story Mode”, a “Vs Odlaw” mode, & a ” Vs. Player” Mode. The story mode features 10 scenes (Pictures) of the “Movie” that the mode is based on. Each scene will have at least 3 different mini-games you can play. Also, you will have to collect at least 3 stars in each scene, for a total of 37 stars at the end of the story mode. In each scene you’ll be able to pick which mini-game you’d like to play. You can play the regular “Find Waldo” in which you’ll need to locate Waldo & other small pictures in the picture. If you don’t want to do that, you’ll also have the choice of playing the same style of game, just a bit harder as the pictures you’ll have to find will slowly disappear. If both of those mini-games aren’t for you, maybe the last one will be. In this mode you’ll have to find pictures in the picture that correspond with the sentence or string of words given to you at the top of the screen. This is probably the easiest mini-game, as the words make it very easy to find the right picture. Those are all the things you have to complete in order to finish the scene, but there’s one bonus you can get. In the picture that you’ll be locating different objects or people, there will also be letters hidden cleverly that spell Hollywood when found.

As we all probably already know, finding Waldo can become a bit frustrating. This is why the developers added a feature that will make it a lot easier for the user to find their specific object or person. This feature is a dog bone. They are hidden all around the picture. You’ll be able to have up to 5 bones only, when you run out, you’ll have to locate some more in order to receive hints.

I must say that all the scenes have great pictures that make it some-what difficult for the user to find their specific object or person. I really like how the developers added different features to the game, such as the various mini-games each scene contains. Without these, Wheres’ Waldo HD would probably become quite boring after some time.

After earning 30 stars in the story mode, the “Vs. Odlaw” mode gets unlocked. The Vs. Odlaw mode is quite fun to be honest. It allows you to continue the fun of finding Waldo in all these Hollywood locations. The environments in Where’s Waldo HD play a crucial role & I think that everyone enjoys exploring Hollywood, am I not right? 🙂

The Vs. Player mode allows you to play against another player on the same iPad. This is another great feature as it offers an abundance of fun, especially when competing! 🙂 In this mode you’ll be able to pick from the 10 different scenes shown in story mode. The first player to find their 5 specified items wins. All though this sounds easy, it’s not as player 2 can easily “come back” & decrease your points by finding their specified items.

Again, Where’s Waldo HD – In HollyWood is definitely great fun for everyone! It offers great joy for a long period of time. It’s definitely not hard to spend 1-2 hours playing Where’s Waldo HD. If you’re a big Waldo fan, you should definitely purchase this application. As of now, there’s absolutely nothing to complain about when it comes to Ludia’s latest game. It even allows the user to have up to 6 different accounts. All I can say is “Wow!”! 🙂 Where’s Waldo? HD – In Hollywood deserves a mega 5/5!

OpenFeint’s Promotional App Now Called Game Channel

Social gaming network OpenFeint has had its own app for a while now, offering news & information for players. But now the app underwent a re-branding of sorts – it is now called Game Chanel & it’s built around a groupon-style model. The app has offered up a Free App of the Day for a while now, but in addition to the freebies, it now also has a feature called “Fire Sale,” in which players can “vote” for certain games to go on sale.

It’ll be interesting to see how that works — one of the biggest issues developers are facing on the App Store is simply getting their app discovered by players, and this seems like yet another outlet for OpenFeint-enabled games to find their customers. The app also helps with discoverability in other ways as well: you can see what your friends are playing, and track leader-boards and all of OpenFeint’s other stats right there.
